Q & A
How long have you been in business?
I’ve been in the real estate business for a bit over 28 years. My prime focus is residential resale, but I also do some residential property management.
Why did you choose to open your business in Ghent?
Probably Ghent chose me, more than I it. I initially worked at Albergotti and Company, which was located in the Ghent Market Shops. I chose to work for Bobby, because of his presence in a market I expected to be a specialty for me. After about 3 years, Albergotti and Company merged with William E Wood and Associates, and in 2014 Wood merged with Howard Hanna. For the last 25 years, I’ve been at the same office, with two companies.
What makes your business unique?
My business is unique because of the way I do business. I look at my job as more educator, or consultant, than as a salesman. My goal is to help give my clients and customers the tools they need to make a good decision about their homes or investment properties. I think I’ve been successful. My business is largely passed clients, or referrals from them, or through my sphere of influence.
What do you love about being in Ghent?
I enjoy the energy Ghent has, and that energy comes from the people who live, work and play here.
What do you like to do for fun in Ghent?
The restaurants, and choices of restaurants is amazing. We have the Naro, we have all sorts of venues, but mostly, I spend time with family and friends at any of the great options here.
Why did you join the GBA / Why is the GBA important to you?
William E Wood was a longtime member of GBA, and I became active as the company representative. My wife, Kathy Knack, has her business in Ghent, too, Kathy Knack Interior Designs. So, my activity is related to growing both our businesses, and growing and improving the business climate in Ghent, and really throughout Norfolk.
